Get all the goods you need in one place with electric guitar kits.

Electric guitar kits are a step-by-step way to build your very own guitar. But why build your own guitar? Guitar kits are a fun, challenging and interesting hobby. Once you build your first kit guitar you will have a playable guitar and it will sound good too. However you won't really be creating a saleable guitar.

However, if you have some time on your hands and love playing the guitar using a kit to build one can be very rewarding. Depending on how much money you have to spend electric guitar kits range from high to low end. The Saga kit is a popular choice and good value for money.

You can alter the basic design features of electric guitar kits to suit you. You can upgrade the tuners to Gotoh mini tuners and the pickups to Kent Armstrong units for example. This will make it harder to put the kit together but you can get help from more experienced kit builders.

In typical electric guitar kits you will find:

* Body neck * pickguard (scratchplate) and screws * bridge and fixing screws * lead pickup, screws and springs * rhythm pickup, screws and springs * control plate * 2 potentiometers and knobs * tone capacitor * 3-position switch and tip * output jack and plate * connecting wire * tuners (machine heads) * string guides, spacers and screws * neck plate and 4 screws * 2 strap buttons and screws - these items will be standard in almost all electric guitar kits.

To build the guitar you will need: screwdrivers, soldering iron and solder, a jigsaw, a range of sandpaper grades, different grades of "wet or dry" emery paper, a sanding block, tack cloth, primer, colored and clear lacquer. These are not provided with electric guitar kits and will have to be bought separately if you don't already have them.

If you've bought electric guitar kits before and had trouble assembling them it is easy to find help online from knowledgeable enthusiasts. But as you practice more and more you'll find that it becomes far easier to build your kit on your own. Guitar kits can be assembled and given as gifts to your friends, children or spouse. They are a great way to show that you care and to continue to explore the fascinating world of guitar music.
